Saartjie started with Ballet classes at the age of three and through the years added some classes in Spanish.

After school she obtained a BA degree followed by a teacher's certificate at the then Potchefstoom University for Christian Higher Education while keeping up her Ballet classes.

This was followed by a few years of teaching at secondary schools as well as teaching Ballet and entering pupils for exams.

In 1981 she and her husband moved to the family farm in Potchefstroom where she continued to teach Ballet to children from the the surrounding farms along with her own children.

In 1993 she got involved with the Christian Dance Fellowship of South Africa that saw her attending and teaching at conferences and workshops locally and internationally. She is currently still involved with the International Christian Dance Fellowship where she saw firsthand the work done internationally with socially marginalised groups through the medium of dance.

This inspired her to do the course in Dance for PD and she has started with a Parkinson dance group meeting once a week in Potchefstroom.

She is also hoping to reach out to neighbouring towns in the months to come and touch the lives there of those living with Parkinsons.
